CASCA: Job postings/Offres d'emploi

***Although CASCA remains profoundly critical of the increasing trend
in the exploitation of part-time, sessional and contract faculty, the
list-serve includes advertisements for part-time teaching opportunities.

The Indian Residential School Legacy:
A Tragic Past, A Hopeful Future
A Lecture by The Hon. Frank Iacobucci

Please join us for this timely lecture, in which Former Justice
Iacobucci intends to talk on the events leading up to the recently
released Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report (TRC), namely, the
Indian Residential School (IRS) tragic experience, the efforts to
reach, and a description of, the Settlement of the legal claims
arising from the IRS episode, and the Truth and Reconciliation
Commission Report itself. He will also offer some comments about how
Canada can improve its relationship with Aboriginal people.

The Honourable Frank Iacobucci has had a varied career in private
practice, academia, government and the judiciary. He was born, raised
and educated in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he received his B.
Comm. and LL.B. from the University of British Columbia. He went on to
receive his LL.M. and Dip. Int'l L. from Cambridge University. He
began his career in 1964 as a lawyer at a large New York firm. In

Professor of Law there until 1985. He successively served as
Vice-President, Internal Affairs, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and

Residential Schools, which is the largest financial settlement in
Canada. In February, 2013 he submitted his Report as an Independent

CASCA/SANA2016 panel CFP: Solidarities with Indigenous Peoples in Canada and Beyond

Solidarities with Indigenous Peoples in Canada and Beyond

Anthropologists work with and for Indigenous peoples in Canada and
beyond. They expose negative representations about Indigenous peoples
within all forms of media. In consultation with Indigenous
stakeholders, anthropologists revise education programs, systems and
resources providing better access and culturally appropriate
instruction. Anthropologists act as expert witnesses for Indigenous
peoples within the courts. They work toward solutions to pressing
health challenges and problems confronting Indigenous peoples. Applied
anthropologists work closely with Indigenous peoples on a host of
practical projects designed to address routine and extraordinary needs
while creating capacity within communities. Anthropologists
collaborate with Indigenous historians and linguists building archives
using Indigenous knowledge and practices to save and maintain
Indigenous histories and languages. These panels invite, among other
things, anthropologists and Indigenous peoples to reflect upon what
solidarity requires, where solidarity-building has worked or not, and
what could have been done differently.

(elisabeth.worliczek@boku.ac.at).
