Internationally, gender and other elements of diversity are
increasingly factoring into performance systems. However, these
diversity dimensions are noticeably lacking in Canada's government
evaluation function . This presentation outlines efforts undertaken to
date, those required, the involvement of multiple stakeholders, the
major limitations, and exciting movement forward in this area.

La Société pour l'avancement de la pédagogie dans l'enseignement
supérieur (SAPES) Prix d'excellence pour éducateurs du secteur collégial

Le Prix d'excellence pour éducateurs du secteur collégial reconnaît
les efforts de personnes qui enseignent dans un collège canadien ou
dans un établissement équivalent (école polytechnique, cégep,
institut, etc.). La Société pour l'avancement de la pédagogie dans
l'enseignement supérieur (SAPES) invite les soumissions de
candidatures pour ce prix prestigieux qui célèbre les personnes qui
favorisent et soutiennent le développement professionnel de leurs
pairs et/ou le secteur des collèges canadiens en ce qui concerne
l'excellence en enseignement.

Description du prix

La communauté des éducateurs du secteur collégial est un groupe de
pairs dévoués à un enseignement de qualité d'un bout à l'autre du
secteur de l'enseignement post-secondaire. Notre prix se différencie
des autres prix d'excellence en enseignement par le fait qu'il se
concentre sur la reconnaissance de personnes qui ont fait des efforts
de qualité pour assurer la promotion et le soutien du développement
professionnel de leurs pairs en ce qui concerne l'excellence en
enseignement. Ce soutien peut avoir été individuel ou collectif.

L'évidence qui pourrait prouver le mérite d'un candidat ou d'une
candidate serait sa participation dans des activités qui soutiennent
l'excellence en enseignement de ses pairs, telles que la direction
d'ateliers, la présentation de communications lors de congrès, le
mentorat, l'implication active dans le travail de comités
universitaires, la participation active dans des associations
universitaires (telles que la Société pour l'avancement de la
pédagogie dans l'enseignement supérieur, le Réseau de formateurs en
pédagogie de l'enseignement supérieur, la Communauté des éducateurs du
secteur collégial, etc.), la publication de résultats de recherche
portant sur l'enseignement, la direction d'un groupe de travail pour
répondre à des contraintes au niveau de la créativité, etc. Ces
activités pourraient avoir eu une portée locale, régionale,
provinciale, nationale et/ou internationale. Veuillez consulter les
détails dans le paragraphe consacré à la procédure de demande.

Le prix est offert à tous les éducateurs qui enseignent activement
dans le secteur collégial. Bien qu'on puisse penser que tous les
éducateurs qui encadrent leurs pairs en matière d'enseignement sont
eux-mêmes d'excellents éducateurs, les critères de soumission des
candidatures doivent également inclure des preuves d'une excellence
soutenue en enseignement, basées sur des données fournies par les
étudiants et les supérieurs et/ou des lettres de supérieurs.

Éligibilité

Les prix sont offerts à toutes les personnes qui détiennent un poste
régulier dans un établissement du secteur collégial canadien au moment
de la mise en candidature (c.-à-d. qui n'enseignent pas/ne détiennent
pas un poste régulier dans un établissement d'enseignement autre qu'un
organisme du secteur collégial), quels que soient la discipline, le
niveau d'enseignement ou le type de leur contrat de travail. Les
demandes en anglais et en français sont les bienvenues.

Procédure de demande

Les demandes relatives à ce prix sont limitées à 25 pages. Elles
doivent être préparées par le candidat ou la candidate, sauf les
documents décrits en # 2 et # 6 ci-dessous. Elles doivent inclure ce
qui suit :

1.
Renseignements personnels – les coordonnées de contact, des détails
sur la scolarité, le poste occupé à l'heure actuelle, les coordonnées
de la personne responsable des relations avec les médias, etc.

2.
Lettre de nomination officielle d'un membre de la direction – la
personne responsable des programmes d'études dans votre établissement
(par ex. le vice-recteur ou la vice-rectrice académique, un directeur
ou une directrice de programme).

3.
Approche relative au leadership assuré par les pairs

a. Philosophie d'enseignement collégial, objectifs d'enseignement et
leadership pédagogique dans des situations formelles et informelles.

b. Réflexion sur l'enseignement collégial avec exemples spécifiques,
en particulier en ce qui concerne le rôle de l'encadrement par les
pairs et du partage des connaissances.

4.
Évidence d'activités soutenues d'enseignement et/ou de leadership
assuré par les pairs – au cours des cinq dernières années ou davantage

a. Activités de soutien, de mentorat ou de coaching destinées aux
pairs (individuellement ou en groupe).

b. Leadership d'équipes ou de groupes de travail responsables de
programmes en relation avec des programmes d'études ou avec
l'enseignement de certaines matières, en particulier lorsque des
approches créatrices ont été mises en oeuvre pour maintenir ou
améliorer la qualité de la pédagogie dans des situations où il existe
des contraintes ou des défis.

c. Activités savantes qui contribuent à la base de connaissances
relative à l'enseignement et à l'apprentissage collégial (recherches
formelles ou informelles sur l'enseignement et l'apprentissage,
présentations, publications, etc.).

d. Participation à des activités de développement professionnel liées
à l'enseignement (colloques, cours, ateliers, associations
professionnelles, etc.).

5.
Évidence d'excellence soutenue dans la pratique de l'enseignement –
par ex. résultats d'évaluations d'étudiants et de supérieurs,
récompenses, prix ou autres reconnaissances.

6.
Lettres de soutien – de la part de deux pairs, rédigées spécifiquement
pour appuyer cette mise en candidature.

Processus de sélection

Les nominations seront examinées par un sous-comité nommé par le
Conseil d'administration de la SAPES qui comprendra le coordinateur ou

membre du comité sera d'au moins deux ans.

Les lauréats :

seront annoncés via un communiqué de presse envoyé par la SAPES;

seront reconnus lors du Congrès annuel de la SAPES, en juin, pour
leurs contributions exemplaires au secteur collégial;
recevront un certificat en reconnaissance de leur contribution à
l'excellence en enseignement et au leadership assuré par les pairs;
recevront une adhésion d'un an gratuite à la SAPES pour l'année où ils
reçoivent le prix ou pour l'année suivante si leur adhésion a déjà été
réglée pour l'année au cours de laquelle ils reçoivent le prix;
recevront un montant de 1000 $ pour défrayer les coûts associés à la
participation au Congrès de la SAPES de 2015 qui aura lieu à Vancouver
(Colombie-Britannique);
participeront à une retraite d'une journée qui se déroulera juste
avant le Congrès de la SAPES, au cours de laquelle leurs réalisations
exceptionnelles dans le domaine du leadership assuré par les pairs
seront soulignées et où ils pourront partager leurs expériences et
leurs idées.

STLHE College Sector Educator Award

The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE)
College Sector Educator Award

The College Sector Educator Award recognizes individuals at Canadian
colleges and equivalent institutions (polytechnics, cégeps,
institutes, etc.). The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher
Education (STLHE) invite submissions for this prestigious award to
celebrate individuals who promote and support the development of their
peers and/or the Canadian college sector with regard to teaching
excellence.

Description of Award

The College Sector Educators Community (CSEC) is a group of peers
dedicated to quality education across our post-secondary sector. Our
teaching award differentiates itself from other teaching awards by
focusing on recognizing those who have made quality efforts to promote
and support the development of their peers with regard to teaching
excellence. This support can be both one-to-one and one-to-many.

Evidence that might support a nominee's claim would be participation
in activities that support the teaching excellence of peers, such as
leading workshops, presenting at conferences, mentoring, participating
on academic committees, being active in academic associations (such as
the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, Educational
Developers Caucus, College Sector Educators Community, etc.),
publishing research related to teaching, and leading program teams in
responding creatively to constraints, etc. These activities could be
local, regional, provincial, national and/or international in scope.

The award will be open to any educator actively teaching in the
college sector. While it may be assumed that any educator who is
providing peer coaching/leadership around teaching is him/herself an
excellent educator, the award submission criteria also includes a
requirement to provide evidence of consistent teaching excellence
through student and supervisor feedback data, and/or letters from
supervisors.

Eligibility

Awards are open to all individuals who have a primary appointment
within a Canadian college sector institution at the time of submission
(i.e. does not teach/work primarily at an educational institution
other than a college sector organization), regardless of discipline,
level, or term of appointment. Applications in French or English are
welcomed.

Application Procedure

Applications for this award are limited to 25 pages. The application
should be prepared by the nominee except as noted below (2. and 6.)
and must include the following:

1.

Personal Information—includes contact information, educational
background, current position, institution's media relations contact
information, etc.

2.

Official Nomination Letter from Senior Management—person responsible
for your institution's academic program (e.g. Vice-President Academic,
Program Director)

3.

Approach to Peer Leadership

a. Philosophy statement related to college education, teaching
goals, and academic leadership in either a formal or informal role

b. Reflections on college teaching, with specific examples,
especially regarding the role of peer support/knowledge sharing

4.

Evidence of Sustained Teaching and/or Peer Leadership Activities—over
the past five years or more

a. Activities providing support/mentoring/coaching to peers
(individually or in groups)

b. Leadership of program teams or task groups in relation to
curriculum or teaching topics, especially where creative approaches
were taken to retain or to improve academic quality in the context of
constraints or challenges

c. Scholarly activities contributing to the knowledge base about
college teaching/learning (informal or formal research into
teaching/learning, presentations, publications, etc.)

d. Participation in teaching-related professional development
(conferences, courses, workshops, professional associations)

Evidence of Consistent Excellence in Teaching Practice
(i.e., student/supervisor evaluation results; awards or other recognition)

6.

Letters of Support—from two peers, specifically in support of this nomination

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed by a sub-committee appointed by the STLHE
Board of Directors, comprised of the College Sector Educator Award
Program Coordinator and members of STLHE. Each Committee member will
serve for a minimum of two years.

Award Recognition

Award winners will:

Be announced via a press release issued by STLHE
Receive recognition at the annual STLHE Conference in June for their
exemplary contributions to the college sector.
Receive a certificate in recognition of his/her contribution to
teaching excellence and peer leadership.
Receive a free one-year membership in STLHE the year he/she wins the
award or the following year if membership has already been paid in the
year in which the award is won.
Receive $1,000 towards expenses associated with attending the 2015
STLHE Conference in Vancouver, BC.
Attend a one-day scholarly pre-conference retreat at the STLHE
conference to celebrate their exceptional achievements and to provide
an opportunity to share their experiences and ideas.
